A CHRISTMAS CAROL SERVICE – Wednesday 11 December 2013
I am pleased to report that, for the first time, all Members, their families and their friends are invited to the annual Three Associations’ Carol Service at St. James’s Church, Piccadilly, followed by mulled wine and mince pies in the Church. This will be a wonderful evening, with all your favourite Carols, with the final Carol entirely by candlelight. We very much hope you will all come along to enjoy it.
Carol Service 6.30 to 7.30pm. Mulled wine and mince pies 7.30 to 8.15pm
This year the Choir will be very local indeed, which makes the event even more of a community evening. We are delighted that the combined Choirs of Christie’s and the Royal Academy of Arts will lead the singing at the service, as well as performing two pieces for the Choir only.
There is no charge for attendance, but hope that, instead, you will give generously to the collection plate when it comes around during one of the last Carols.
Please let me know if you intend to come, by email, so that I can give a final number to the Church to allow then to arrange for sufficient mulled wine and mince pies!
Members may not know but our old clubhouse was on the corner of Piccadilly and Swallow Street, opposite the Church. During the Blitz an incendiary device fell on the Church and the then President, together with another Member, the Steward and the cook helped fight the fire with a hose attached to a bedroom bath tap. The Club was not so lucky, as a year later it received a direct hit and was totally destroyed.
The evening will be in aid of St. James’s Church Restoration Fund
This invitation has come, by kind permission of The Reverend Lucy Winkett, from the Mayfair & St. James’s Association, the Bond Street Association and the Jermyn Street Association. (The Club is a member of the Mayfair & St James’s Association).
